After our wonderful surfing lessons, we spent the remainder of our last day in Hawaii at the Dole Pineapple Plantation. I wish we had known what a cool place this was going to be, we would have allotted an entire day to visit, rather than just a few hours. The plantation is quite a ways out of town, and we had a flight to catch later that evening. This day was Father's Day. We thought that was kind of ironic, because Greg really does not like the taste of pineapple at all. But, even he had fun as there was so much to see and do at the plantation.
Jessy loves the sound of trains. In fact, if he is upset, one of the things I do to cheer him up is to say "Chugga, chugga, choo choooooo, chugga, chugga, whoo, whooooo!" It always makes him smile. So, waiting for our turn on the train was no problem for Jessy.
Gotta love that smile!

What we came to see, the pineapples!
This is one of the machines that processes the pineapple that is being picked.
Outside the entrance to the Pineapple Express train ride is this really cool sign post that has different pieces pointing in different directions telling how far to different locations in the world.
We thought it was very fitting that Tokyo was one of the signs (showing the distance we have already traveled on this vacation and we're not anywhere near being finished with our travels yet. In fact, we've only just begun!)
This was where we could have spent hours! Dole Pineapple Plantation is famous for its world's largest maze. Here we are outside one of the passageways.
Inside the maze are these little hidden kiosks where you must find 12 different stencils and trace them onto your card. The hard part is finding different ones. Several times we must have doubled back because we found our way back to the same stencil!
The stencils included a sun, a pineapple (of course), a hula girl, etc.)
Throughout much of this experience, I felt like the loveable Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. Which way to go????
Even poor Jessy found himself trapped in many a corner. Actually, Jessy was one of the tricky parts. He kept us honest. Where some people cheated and walked through breaks in the hedges, his chair would not fit, so we had to stay on the path, even if we could see where we wanted to be just on the other side!
As the kids were leading the way, this is the view that we saw quite often.
We did finally find our way out of the maze, but we did not have time to find all the different stencil posts. We were in the maze for just over a half an hour and found a total of 6 of the stencils. All of us would have liked to stay and keep searching, but it was getting close to closing time and we did promise the kids that they could get pineapple ice cream, so it was off to the concessions where we each got a T-shirt to commemorate this fun day and of course, ate yummy pineapple ice cream (which Greg happily skipped.)
