Literature Parade

Today was the culminating activity to the Read Across America event that has been going on all month at our school. The children have been logging the number of minutes they have read for the month. For every 15 minutes, they got to color in one of the 50 states. Michael colored in 32 states for a total of 480 minutes. For the last 45 minutes of the day, we had a literary character parade. It was great fun! The students were to choose a book and dress up as one of the characters in the book. Here are the pictures I took.

Jessy dressed as our favorite puppy, Biscuit. If you are not familiar with these books and you have young readers, check them out! He is a very cute puppy who has many stories! As you can see, Jessy chose Bathtime for Biscuit (because Jessy loves to take a bath!)

Michael and I have become avid fans of the Magic Tree House series. The main characters, Jack and Annie travel through time to many historical events or important locations. In the books, the characters teach the readers facts about the event or place they are visiting. We chose the book, Ghost Town at Sundown and enjoyed dressing as cowboy Jack and Cowgirl Annie.

This is Teisan. He dressed as Farmer Brown. Again, if you don't know about Farmer Brown, you are missing out! And what would you expect Yuki to dress as, Hello Kitty, of course! I only had one Hello Kitty book, Hello Kitty Gives Thanks. Not quite the right season, but it will have to do!

What fun! I can't wait for next year. This time we will plan ahead and buy things this summer while we are in the states. It is hard to find stuff here!
